Gus Mahoney
Gus Mahoney is a director/actor/comedian based in Brooklyn by way of Cleveland, Ohio. He is the co-founder of Parabasis Productions, a new theater company/ensemble focused on actually putting plays on, rather than being stuck in the Reading/Workshop Industrial Complex™. They make plays simply, intimately, and excitingly, just the audience, actors, and maybe a light or two if they’re feeling frisky. With Parabasis, he has directed a new adaptation of The Seagull by Craig Johnson in a warehouse in Bushwick and the upcoming production of Daniel Holzman’s Middle School Play at The Brick in March 2025, as well as acted in Bird Play by Sarah Goldman and Nigel Berkeley at IRT. He also devised and directed Mitchell Ashe’s The Spaghetti Variable with Most Unwanted Productions at The Tank, as well as helped develop and found The Smoke n’ Shake Theater, a Brooklyn-based cannabis Shakespeare theater-of-the-senses ensemble. In comedy, his work has included writing, producing, and hosting The Wig Pageant Variety Hour, a “John Waters-meets-QVC” monthly character comedy pageant at BCC and Second City NYC; writing, devising, and performing in the mainstage residency show at Brooklyn Comedy Collective (BCC); developing, producing, and performing ProLapsiXca, a fake Multi-Level-Marketing Scheme show at Second City NYC; and performing character/improv comedy at venues like BCC, UCB, Second City NYC, Caveat, and more. Passionate about community solidarity, reality television, increasing economic accessibility to the arts, late stage capitalism aesthetics (obsessed with the strip mall), dinner parties, and, of course, actresses of a certain age.
Graduate of University of Minnesota/ Guthrie Theater
